Ascension Parish Library – Donaldsonville Branch

Designed by Multistudio, the new Ascension Parish Library Donaldsonville Branch opened in 2024 and brings books, state-of-the-art educational tools, and community resources closer to residents who previously had to travel to other locations. Spanning 14,800 square feet, the library serves as a dynamic hub for learning, creativity, and engagement. Embracing the evolving role of modern libraries, it integrates flexible spaces and advanced technology to inspire learning and innovation. In addition to its book collection, the facility features a digital lab and maker-space equipped with computers, an audiovisual recording studio, a virtual reality room, digital design software, 3D printers, and a laser cutter, offering visitors hands-on opportunities to explore STEM-based learning.

Designed to serve a diverse community, the library includes dedicated spaces for different age groups, such as an expanded children’s section and a teen area. Specialty library shelving enhances the organization and accessibility of materials, while thoughtfully furnished group study rooms, independent study carrels, comfortable lounges and booths, and a flexible public meeting room support various activities from quiet study to community events. Another key highlight is the Jeannette Jefferson Collection; named after a local resident, it is a special curated selection of books focused on African American history, culture, and authors. Additionally, the library’s graphics and interiors celebrate the rich heritage of Donaldsonville, bridging the city’s past and future. As a result, the library stands as a testament to the parish’s commitment to learning, progress, and unity, creating an inviting environment for connection, exploration, and discovery for all generations.
