The Shop at the CAC | AOS Interior Environments
Completed in September 2017, The Shop at the CAC is a 40,000-square foot co-working space for small businesses, entrepreneurs and arts-based professionals. Located on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Contemporary Arts Center, The Shop presents a hub of entrepreneurship in the continued development of downtown New Orleans. The shared workspaces were designed to facilitate connection—a place for people to create and collaborate—that reflects the city’s character through historic preservation and cultural partnerships with local companies and contemporary artists. AOS worked with Eskew+Dumez+Ripple to furnish the open floor plan, which features 7 conference rooms and 69 private offices with several shared spaces, including a kitchen, library, rooftop deck and private phone booths—all designed to create energy and foster creativity, communication and interaction. The communal and recreational spaces have a variety of seating options for tenants to choose how they want to work and relax and can be reconfigured for events or meetings and conversation or privacy. In addition to systems and task chairs, the mixture of vintage, mid-century modern and outdoor furniture emphasizes durability for revolving tenants, events and programming while meeting the needs of businesses across multiple industries. With its unique partnerships, The Shop at the CAC is a restoration and revitalization of a space that has long served New Orleans entrepreneurs and the community.
