VERPAN: Introducing a Style Icon

We are excited to share the news that one of our favorite manufacturers, Holmris Group in Denmark, is introducing the Verpan furniture & lighting collection to the North American market. Holmris will act as Verpan strategic partner to the North American contract furniture & design partners, bringing one of Denmark’s mid century modern design icons to the North American marketplace.

In 1955 Danish born designer and creator of Verpan, Verner Panton opened the doors to his first interior design studio. Once Panton burst on to the scene it did not take long for him to establish his unique reputation for his exuberant originality and tireless experimentation. His inspirational and colorful personality is reflected in his creations, which have been established today as contemporary design classics and are as strikingly inventive now as they were 50 years ago.

Panton’s interior installations have attained legendary status. Here are some of the pieces that made their debut in the 1960’s and 1970’s that are still being utilized today.

The Cloverleaf Sofa: Designed in 1969 for the Visiona 2 exhibit this piece playfully walks the line between sensuous seating and sculpture and modular pragmatism. The longhaired upholstery adds softness and envelops this modular sofa with sophistication.

The Series 430 Chair: Designed almost 50 years ago this chair is still perfect for hotels, restaurants, conference rooms and private residences. This fully upholstered multi-purpose chair has a beautiful finish and is enhanced by its exceptional comfort, small footprint and easy stacking ability.

System 123: This modern day version stays 100% true to the original visual design but has been upgraded to contract use with molded foam inside the lockable swivel base. The original commission in 1973 was to design a series that combined a multitude of different functions with the basic requirement of good sitting comfort. The completion of the series took Panton three years but the result was a unique chair concept that gives the piece organic roots and make it appear to grow up out of the floor.

These designs along with many other lamps, furniture pieces and textiles created by Panton established him as one of the giants of the Danish design community and a highly sought after interior designer. The partnership with Verpan to Holmris will allow for architects, designer and contractor to continue to utilize the original designs and products of a true icon.
